Patrice Moret (1972) is a Swiss acoustic double bassist, electric bassist, and composer. A winemaker until the age of 21, he then spent six months holed up in his garage preparing for the entrance exam to the Montreux Conservatory’s jazz program. His talent paid off: he was admitted and received financial support from the school to continue his training. He has contributed to 11 albums released on the ECM label, which has led him to share the stage and the studio with numerous musicians, notably Ben Monder, Jojo Mayer, Lionel Loueke, and the Colin Vallon Trio, with whom he has been performing on international stages since 2005. He has toured Japan five times, the United States three times, and crisscrossed Europe!
At the same time, he has developed a more personal voice through his own projects, notably with Néon, a quartet featuring Benoît Delbecq, Otis Sandsjö, and Julian Sartorius, where composition, improvisation, and acoustic textures come together.
In addition to his work on the acoustic double bass, Patrice explores new musical realms on the electric bass and in electronic music with the drums-bass duo Hoiy, in a quest for unique, personal, and profound sound textures.
